2021 | Same Time, Different Box
The 12 paintings in the series Same Time, Different Box began during early pandemic lockdown in 2020 as a metaphorical way of describing the community experience of being in isolation within our houses, our boxes.
The language of hard-edge abstraction provides rigid, straight-edged, constricting boundaries to the house-boxes, and the gestural brush marks inside the shapes suggest activity - the movements and interactions, gentle and frenetic, of the inhabitants isolated inside their houses. The layering of bright translucent pigments demonstrates colour mixing in a formal sense … and suggests that all is not lost.
