About

Working with a variety of media across painting, painting installation and drawing, my practice seeks to give physical form to circumstances, situations and reactions that occur in our lives.

Emphasising the formal elements of painting, particularly colour and surface, the works allude to sensory and emotional events inherent in the human experience. It is here that the formal, the aesthetic and the conceptual converge ...

It is also here that an incongruity exists. Although the works are ‘representative’ of an experience, such as love or grief, they are non representational - they offer no image of the real world. They are paintings as objects, yet each contains a meaning that transcends its formal qualities. They could be metaphors, or talismans.

The seduction of paint in the age of the screen, the physicality of the painting and making process and the ambiguity of a non representational painting as an ‘object’ that indeed represents something continues to form the basis of my practice.

The works invite the viewer to reflect on their own inner histories, and contemplate states of being that are common to our shared human lives.
